New ATM Posted: “Intro to the Pelvic Clock”

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

I’ve posted a new ATM that was recorded on Oct 4th 2010. The lesson is a variation of the classic “Pelvic Clock” lesson and is part 4 of the introductory ATM series that I taught. A few versions of Moshe teaching this lesson were recorded in his public workshops, it appears in his ATM book, and many other ATM teachers have recorded and taught versions of it. It is perhaps the most classic of all ATM lessons in that it is both exceedingly simple yet highly effective. This version is an introductory version, however note that more complex versions involving simultaneous head and pelvic clocks are out there and are really fun to do once the basic movement is clear.

The lesson can be downloaded from the ATM Recordings Page. I hope you enjoy the lesson and look forward to any thoughts or feedback.

ATM Lessons are being done all over the world

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

In early March, the new openATM.org site was launched. Originally (2005-2009) it was hosted on a server at work and the site was pretty bare-boned. I also had no idea who, if anyone, was downloading the ATM lessons.

Well, 6 months after the new site was inaugurated, there have been more that 6600 ATMs uniquely downloaded. That is a lot of ATM lessons. These ATMs are often being downloaded in places where there are no Feldenkrais Practioners or the possibility of attending an ATM class. The site has been visited from 87 different countries! In the 4 years previous, who knows how many ATMs were downloaded. It is very exciting that ATMs are being done all over the world. So with that, get on the floor, scan yourself, and enjoy the lessons!

New ATM posted: “Turning in Side-Sitting”

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Finally! An ATM recording I was happy with. So, yes, I’ve posted a new ATM that was recorded on Sept 27th 2010. It is titled “Turning in Side-Sitting” and is a variation in the canon of ATM lessons. It is also colloquially known as the “Dead-Bird” lesson. There are many versions of this ATM from Moshe himself – many in AY and also in the SF evening series, among other places.

Please see ATM Recordings for the list of all ATM lesson.

For this lesson I made a quick summary for those that are interested (see below). Enjoy.

  • Check turning R/L to see how it is.
  • Side-sit with your knees to the right, left hand in front resting. Turn to the right with your eyes closed. How far can you go?
    1. Turn to the right a comfortable amount.

      1. Move your eyes left and to the middle; move your eyes right and to the middle; move your eyes back and forth from left to right.
      2. In the same position, move your head to the left; move your head to the right; move your head back and forth from left to right.
      3. In the same position, move your hand left; move your hand right; move your hand back and forth from left to right.
      4. Move your hand back and forth from left to right with your eyes open and looking straight ahead.
      5. Move your hand from left to right while moving your head in the opposite direction and keeping your eyes on your hand.
    2. Rest.
    3. Come back to sitting with your knees to the right, left hand resting in front. Turn to the right with your eyes closed and see how that is going.
  • Side-sit with your left hand on top of your head.
    • Tilt your right ear to your right shoulder – what happens in your pelvis?
    • Tilt your left ear to your left shoulder. Allow your left ishium to move.
    • Go left to right – let the movement resonate.
    • Rotate to the right, tilt your body left and right with resonating.
    • Rest.
    • Come back to sitting with your knees to the right, left hand resting in front. Turn to the right with your eyes closed and see how that is going.
  • Side-sit and turn comfortably to the right. Put both hands to the right.
    • Flex and extend (raise & lower the head) & feel your pelvis.
    • Come back to sitting with your knees to the right, left hand resting in front. Turn to the right with your eyes closed and see how that is going.
